Inclement weather did not stop the Midland Chamber from hosting its Star-Spangled Salute on July 4. The chamber spent the entire Fourth of July holiday monitoring the forecast as rain and wind made their presence felt in the Tall City.

According to the non-profit organization's July 5 Facebook post, the weather did not dampen the energy of the Star-Spangled Salute's guests, who endured delays prior to enjoying the culminating fireworks show.

While the fireworks commenced following a late start, the event's first-ever Drone Show did not go as scheduled.

Permian Basin NBC affiliate KWES News reported that Midland Chamber President Evan Thomas met with more than 30 health and safety officers to discuss what each would do to ensure the Star-Spangled Salute was safe.

KWES reported that the chamber had the last word on how the rest of the night would go, with Thomas telling the station, "The fireworks went ahead just as the rain stopped and the winds died down."

According to Midland Reporter-Telegram, it took several months for the Midland Chamber to put together the Star-Spangled Salute, which was sponsored by Pioneer Natural Resources Company.

In addition, it was part of Thomas's first year as chamber president.
