Tiffany Hokett, co-owner of American Safety Services Inc, has been steering the company behind the scenes since its inception in October 2000.
American Safety Services Inc. offers oilfield safety training classes for employees, onsite safety teams, fire equipment, environmental and production services.
“I’m so proud to be a part of American Safety Services because they truly save lives,” Hokett told Midland Times. She said she is “thankful and humbled by how much it’s grown over the years.”
Hokett said she and her husband Kevin, started the company in her New Mexico home, and expanded to include two locations in Midland and Odessa, Texas.
She is involved behind-the-scenes in operations, overseeing accounting, creating departments, managing inventory, handling accounts receivable, and developing policies and procedures. She said she also takes care of the company’s IT and customer service functions.
Her self-described leadership style is to set high expectations and lead by example. She said she focuses on identifying individual strengths, and adjusts work accordingly. She also said she gives employees the reins and avoids micromanagement.
According to Hokett, one of her most challenging roles is managing accounts receivable, which requires her to work closely with clients to meet their needs while managing details on invoices. She said her favorite role is research, where she enjoys “solving complex problems and helping people.”
Her advice to women entering the workforce is to be knowledgeable about subjects and projects, conduct thorough research, report facts, and be poised during discussions.
“Women are powerful, and intelligent, I love to see what we are capable of,” she said.
