Grand Companions was founded in 1989 to help people save, honor, and connect with homeless pets, and to find them homes, according to Program Coordinator Nash Traylor and Executive Director Laura Langham.

The program covers Midland and the Texas Trans-Pecos region. It opened an office in Midland in 2005, which Langham calls a significant step in local animal rescue. The new location served as the pilot center for an Adoption Center Satellite Expansion Project.

"This initiative aims to support communities grappling with the challenges of shelter overcrowding and pet euthanasia, providing much-needed resources and assistance," Langham told the Midland Times.

Grand Companions runs three programs, which Langham describes as Rescue, Shelter, and Adoption. “Helping humans to save animals is Grand Companions' first and main priority,” she said.

A cornerstone of Grand Companions' philosophy is the Sweet Suite Shelter program which is designed to provide a calm, happy, and interactive environment for the pets, which also benefits  clients and staff.

“Our animal guests benefit from lots of interaction in our staff members' offices, home settings, and volunteers who take them for walks and events,” said Traylor.

Grand Companions is looking to expand again in Midland with a future capital campaign to purchase land and build a new, larger facility. “We are planning for the future and are hopeful for the animals of West Texas,” said Traylor.
