The city of Midland recently announced the appointment of Greg Snow as the interim chief of the Midland Police Department (MPD) on May 21. Snow, a veteran with 25 years of law enforcement experience, steps into the role previously held by Seth Herman, who has since joined the Lubbock Police Department (LPD).

In a press release issued by the city on May 21, Midland City Manager Tommy Gonzalez described Snow as an individual who has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities. Prior to his new role, Snow served as MPD's deputy chief.

Snow's accolades include two Supervisor of the Year Awards in 2012 and 2015, according to the press release.

As deputy chief, Snow was responsible for overseeing a team of detectives and analysts, managing a department budget, collaborating with other city departments, and leading engagement with other community entities, said the release.

“The appointment of Mr. Snow as the Interim Chief will ensure continuity and stability within the Police Department during this transition period,” said Gonzalez in the release. “Please join me in welcoming Greg to his new role. We are confident that his leadership will be invaluable as we continue to uphold the safety and security of our community.”

The city plans to conduct a nationwide search for a permanent police chief.

Snow's appointment coincided with Herman's last day at MPD.
