The Midland City Council has sanctioned the installation of litter net fencing at a landfill, a project that is set to cost $128,415. This measure aims to prevent trash from being blown out of the landfill.
According to the May 14 results agenda posted by the Midland City Council, the bid of $128,415.63 was approved for Wind and Sun Protection Inc., based in Coaldale, AB Canada. Erika Martinez, Purchasing Manager, stated that bids were requested from 108 vendors and three responses were received. The funding for this project will be sourced from the Solid Waste Budget.
The city plans to install a litter net fence that is between 25 and 30 feet tall along the northern perimeter of two cells at the landfill. As stated in the May 14 results agenda posted by the Midland City Council, approximately 1,400 feet of netting is required to prevent windblown trash from leaving the site and littering private property north of the area. It is obligatory for the landfill to control windblown litter.
In addition to this, according to the May 14 results agenda posted by Midland City Council, they have approved a capital funding plan aiming to raise $31 million for improvements to the city's sanitation system. The sanitation system requires an overall improvement budget of $40 million which includes more than $21 million for work at the landfill such as reconstruction of its entrance road, installation of a landfill gas flare system and cell construction.
Lastly, according to May 14 results agenda posted by Midland City Council, it was also agreed upon that advertising would be used to publish notice of their intent for a bond issuance in order to raise necessary funds.
