Mariachi Workshop | Hispanic Cultural Center of Midland

The sounds of mariachi filled the Midland County Horseshoe Arena on Monday, May 3 as more than 200 students, including participants from as far away as El Paso, gathered for a three day workshop.

The event was hosted by the Hispanic Cultural Center of Midland, and marks a significant increase from last year's attendance of 60 students.

“Mariachi is growing and we worked to align schedules which encouraged students and parents to attend.” said Executive Director Calisto delaPena.

The art of mariachi singing and instrumentals was taught by expert instructors brought in for the occasion. According to delaPena, the workshop's growth shows growing interest in mariachi music in the region.

The Hispanic Cultural Center of Midland’s mission is to preserve Hispanic culture for local youth through education in the arts.
