On May 16 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, the Arts Council of Midland will present "Landscape in Flight" at 1506 West Illinois Avenue. The exhibition will showcase the work of Austin-based artist David Mercado, featuring twenty-two acrylic and oil pastel paintings. The event includes a reception with refreshments and is free and open to the public. The exhibition was announced in a press release on May 14.
According to the release, Mercado gained national recognition for his series focused on the beauty, strength, and movement of hummingbirds. His work has since evolved into a dynamic bird and landscape series. Mercado primarily works with mixed media on wood and paper, with Texas birds being a central theme in his latest pieces.
A self-taught artist with over 25 years of experience, Mercado has exhibited his work in galleries and exhibitions nationwide, according to the release. He has upcoming exhibitions planned throughout Texas in the spring and summer.
The Arts Council of Midland's exhibition program is a quarterly event that is free and open to the public.
