Excitement is building for the upcoming Spring Fling at the Sibley Nature Center, set to take place this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1307 E. Wadley Ave. in Midland.
The event promises activities that inspire outdoor exploration, nature appreciation, and conservation efforts.
Attendees can look forward to many attractions, including a magic show with reptiles, hands-on crafts, and engaging educational activities for young ones.
The event will also feature Shipley donuts and captivating garden tours, plus guided nature hikes to walk off the sugary treats.
There will be no shortage of photo opportunities, according to Paul Acosta, the executive director of the Sibley Nature Center. This year marks the return of the Texas Camel Corps and promises to add an exciting dimension to the festivities.
"This year, the Texas Camel Corps will be with us which we are excited about," Acosta said. "Attendees can pet and take photos with the camels."
The Spring Fling, an annual tradition that commenced in 2014, is vital to advocating for the outdoors, fostering a deeper connection with nature, and promoting conservation efforts among Midland community members.
"The event's mission is to promote the outdoors, nature, conservation, and stewardship," Acosta said.
In addition to activities hosted by the Sibley Nature Center, attendees will have the opportunity to interact with various organizations also dedicated to environmental advocacy and education. Participating organizations include Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Petroleum Museum, the Museum of the Southwest, Keep Midland Beautiful, Scooter Dog, and Pucker Up Lemonade. The event is made possible through the generous sponsorship of SM Energy.
"The festival will allow attendees to learn the importance of the outdoors and how to become good stewards of the place we call home," Acosta said. "The entire event will take place in our education garden, which will allow us to show that one can have a garden in West Texas."
As anticipation mounts for the Spring Fling, residents of Midland and surrounding areas are gearing up for a day of outdoor adventure, education, and community engagement. With its diverse range of activities and educational opportunities, the free event promises to be a highlight of the spring season for nature enthusiasts of all ages.
