Keep Midland Beautiful (KMB) has been honored with the Gold Star Affiliate recognition from Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB). This achievement was announced shortly after KMB revealed plans to commemorate its 40th anniversary.
In an April 23 Facebook post, KMB expressed gratitude towards its volunteers, board members, partners, and sponsors for the accolade, referring to it as an ideal anniversary present.
The organization explained that the Gold Star Affiliate is the highest membership recognition status that any KTB community affiliate can attain.
According to a report by Permian Basin NBC affiliate KWES News, KMB and other affiliates mobilized over 32,000 volunteers last year who participated in more than 500 cleanups. These efforts resulted in the collection of nearly four million pounds of waste and recyclables from the state’s roadways, trails and waterways.
KMB further stated on Facebook that it had successfully implemented programs aimed at litter cleanup, waste reduction and recycling, as well as education of local citizens.
As per information available on its website, KMB was established in February 1983 with initial funding and support provided by the city and the Midland Chamber of Commerce. Originally known as Clean Midland, it has since evolved into its current form.
Midland Times reported that KMB is currently seeking volunteers for its 26th Annual National Spring Community Cleanup Event/Don't Mess With Texas Trash Off. The event will continue until May 31.
