Senior Life Midland will open a new facility in May at 3301 Sinclar Road. It will continue to provide Meals on Wheels services and 6 other homebound senior programs.
"We had far outgrown our past building, and the lot wasn't laid out to the best use of the space,” Executive Director Kathleen Kirwan - Haynie told Midland Times. "In the past, we had staff members in wheelchairs that couldn't utilize all parts of the building. Now, with this new facility that's no longer a concern and it's so amazing," she said.
The new facility is made possible in part by a gift from the Furhman-Vogel family, according to Kirwan - Haynie. The family gifted their home to the program, which has been redesigned to accommodate senior service needs.
Haynie told Midland Times the new building and layout provide well-thought storage, traffic flow for deliveries, “and many other amenities we truly needed,” she said. The building will also include safety features, including “generators to protect the frozen foods for our Meals on Wheels program, safety lights, and an adequate security system," she said.
“Our population of Seniors keeps growing, and to watch such an important program also grow and thrive makes me so proud,” Kirwan - Haynie said.
Funding for the building also came from contributions by foundations, individuals and corporations.
According to their website, these services are designed to address needs of the senior homebound population.
