Fix West Texas (FWT) and the city of Midland are urging pet owners to participate in a drive-thru vaccine clinic on April 14 to "help [the area] beat its distemper problem". The event, which will be held behind the FWT facility, is an excellent chance for owners of currently unvaccinated pets.

In a Facebook post dated April 12, the city announced that vaccines to prevent parvo and distemper would be provided free of charge.

FWT revealed that its shelter is plagued with distemper, a highly contagious disease that has no known cure. According to the non-profit organization, some pets affected by the disease will survive while others may not. The organization is seeking individuals willing to foster pets that have not been exposed to distemper. The American Veterinary Medical Association lists symptoms of distemper as including but not limited to discharge from the eyes and nose, fever, and coughing. It further states that at least one in two canines will succumb to the disease.

FWT's origins date back to 2018 when a rescue dog named Roscoe was found at a desolate gas station by the Patterson family. Approximately a year later, what would become FWT was initiated.

The FWT offices are situated at 5023 Princeton, Suite 17 in Midland. The organization can be reached by texting (432) 201-1124.
