Pink the Basin, a nonprofit organization that aids in mammograms and diagnostic services, announced the upcoming check presentations to six hospitals in the Permian Basin to support breast cancer screenings and diagnostic services.
The upcoming check presentation is scheduled for March 28 at Permian Regional Hospital administrative office at 10 a.m. Past check presentations were conducted this week on March 25-26 at Medical Center Hospital, Reeves County Hospital, and Odessa Regional Hospital.
Executive Director of Pink the Basin Carolina Keith highlighted the critical role of Pink the Basin in providing breast cancer screenings and diagnostic services by sharing the significance of early detection in reducing breast cancer mortality rates. "Early detection has helped reduce breast cancer mortality by nearly 40% in the US," Keith told Midland Times. "Many families lost their insurance or faced high deductibles during COVID, making it difficult for them to access life-saving mammograms. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer sometime in their lifetime, and 1 in 1000 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime."
This year, Pink The Basin will allocate a total of $665,000 to support breast cancer services across six hospitals in the region.
The grants for 2024 will be awarded to Midland Health, Medical Center Health System, Odessa Regional Medical Center, Permian Regional Medical Center (Andrews), Reeves County Hospital District (Pecos), and Scenic Mountain Medical Center (Big Spring).
"The Permian Basin community has generously donated to Pink the Basin, and we want to show our donors where their donations are going to help the women and men of the Permian Basin,” said Keith.
