Midland Memorial Hospital (MMH) has been recognized as a Leader in Caring for People Living with Diabetes. This recognition, conferred by The Leapfrog Group in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association (ADA), highlights MMH's adherence to positive standards with the mission to deliver high-quality care to patients with diabetes.

According to a release form Midland Health, MMH stands out as one of only 17 hospitals to earn this distinction in 2024 out of numerous contenders nationwide.

"Receiving this award marks a significant milestone in our journey to continue leading healthcare for Greater Midland,” President and CEO at Midland Health Stephen Bowerman in the release. “It reaffirms our mission to innovate, serve, and excel in providing the highest quality care to our community. As we celebrate this achievement, we also embrace it as a stepping stone towards even greater accomplishments in the future."

The assessment of 2024 Recognized Leaders in Caring for People Living with Diabetes was based on a range of key indicators reflecting MMH's commitment to diabetes care excellence. These indicators include evaluating policies and protocols supporting patient-centered care, adherence to guidelines for surgical preparation and diabetes management, and planning for high-risk diabetes patients from admission to discharge, as stated in the release.

"There is an immense need to ensure hospitals provide safe, patient-centered care for all people who live with diabetes,” said Chief Scientific and Medical Officer at the American Diabetes Association Dr. Robert Gabbay. “Hospitals recognized through this program are leading the way."

Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group emphasized the program's role in promoting patient safety, saying, "Eight million people living with diabetes are hospitalized each year in the United States, and a disturbing number of them experience safety breakdowns due to preventable medical errors. This program is a powerful tool to promote facilities that can appropriately accommodate and safely manage care for these at-risk patients."
