The Petroleum Professional Development Center (PPDC) of Midland College introduced two new courses for professionals interested in oil and gas finance. These courses will be offered twice a year and cover financing, underwriting, investing, and managing oil and gas portfolios.

The courses, titled "Oil & Gas Performance Metrics: Concepts and Applications" and "Introduction to Oil & Gas Reserves," will be held at the Midland College campus and will also be available via in-house training.

The "Oil & Gas Performance Metrics: Concepts and Applications" course will delve into the calculation and utilization of performance metrics to gain both quantitative and qualitative insights into the strength of an oil and gas investment. Participants will learn about operational and expense analysis, cash flow analysis, reserves quantification and validation, capital efficiency, and return on investment. It is a one-day course, offering 0.7 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), and costs $400.

The "Introduction to Oil & Gas Reserves" course will cover the fundamentals of oil and gas reserve reporting, including basic geological and petroleum concepts related to reserves. Participants will learn how to  prepare a reserve report by understanding its contents and validating its accuracy. Practical real-world data, reserve reports, and reserve software will be utilized to emphasize key concepts. This 2.5-day course offers 1.8 CEUs and is priced at $900.

As the oil and gas industry grows so does the demand for its workforce. The U.S. Department of Labor reported that the need for skilled oil and gas technicians is projected to grow 23% by 2030 nationwide, and 18% in Texas, according to the Midland College website.

“The impact of Midland College offering more oil and gas classes for their students is significant,” Jeff Beard of CrownQuest Operating told Midland Times. “It specifically addresses local economic needs by providing specialized training, fostering a skilled workforce, promoting innovation in the industry, and attracting investment to the region.”
