The Midland Police Department's directed patrol and K-9 units recently teamed up with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to execute a successful narcotics seizure operation, removing a significant quantity of methamphetamine from the streets of Midland.

The joint effort, which took place last week, showcased the commitment of law enforcement agencies to work together in safeguarding the community. Midland police expressed their gratitude to the officers involved, emphasizing the role played by such collaborations in ensuring the safety of all residents of Midland.

In a release from the City of Midland, a spokesperson for the Midland Police Department said, "The success of this operation underscores the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding our community. We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to these officers and their unwavering dedication to ensuring our communities are a safer place to live."

The operation featured the participation of the K-9 unit, including K-9 Luki and handler Officer Romero. According to a Facebook post from the Midland Police Department in March 2022, Luki, originally from the Czech Republic, was carefully selected to join the Midland Police Department after a thorough process that involved a 15-hour drive to Riverside, California. Luki was chosen after testing several dogs to find the best match for both the unit and Officer Romero.

The same Facebook post also highlighted the Midland Police Department's commitment to developing specialized units, such as the K-9 unit, saying that officers can be eligible for such assignments after two years of service at Midland Police Department.
