A 20-year-old Odessa man has been arrested in connection to a series of auto burglaries that took place recently. Alex Brackman is now facing multiple charges related to these burglaries, including evading an officer and being in possession of firearms as a felon.
The incidents began on February 4, 2024, when the Odessa Police Department received reports of multiple vehicle burglaries in the Parks Bell Ranch area. During these burglaries, several firearms were stolen. Unfortunately, the surveillance footage provided limited information, showing only a man wearing a hoodie, mask, and gloves.
Just two days later, on February 6, 2024, an officer patrolling the Parks Bell Ranch area noticed a man fitting the description provided in the surveillance footage. The man was seen standing next to a vehicle while wearing a hoodie, mask, and gloves. As the officer approached, the man fled on a bicycle.
In an effort to apprehend Brackman, officers from the Odessa Police Department and the University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) joined forces. Utilizing a drone from UTPB, they were able to locate and detain Brackman. However, the criminal activity did not stop there.
Following Brackman's arrest, the Odessa Police Department received additional reports of auto burglaries. Multiple incidents were reported at the Candlewood Suite Hotel, as well as approximately four more burglaries in the Parks Bell Ranch community. The investigation into these crimes is still ongoing, as authorities work to locate and recover stolen property.
In light of these incidents, the Odessa Police Department is urging the public to be vigilant and take precautions to prevent auto burglaries. They are emphasizing the importance of not leaving valuables and firearms in vehicles. Lieutenant Susan Rogers of the Odessa Police Department stated, "Mr. Brackman and criminals like him are why we need to secure our vehicles and take our valuables out every day."
The arrest of Alex Brackman serves as a reminder of the dedication and persistence of law enforcement in ensuring the safety and security of the community. The Odessa Police Department and UTPB officers worked together seamlessly to apprehend the suspect and prevent further criminal activity.
As the investigation continues, authorities will be diligently working to locate and return the stolen property to its rightful owners. The Odessa Police Department is grateful for the cooperation and support of the community in this ongoing effort to combat auto burglaries and keep the city safe.
