Midland (13-17, 1-6) went down big early and while they mounted a fourth quarter comeback attempt, the deficit was too great to recover from in a 64-54 loss to San Angelo Central (23-10, 5-2) on Feb. 2.

San Angelo Central took a 3-0 lead when Christian English launched a wide open three early in the first quarter. Midland quickly responded with a bucket when Tyquon Satterwhite came out of nowhere to intercept a pass and take it all the way to the hole for a layup. However, it would be a tough next couple minutes as San Angelo went off for an 8-0 run before Da’Vion Mosley of Midland hit a three to make it 11-5. San Angelo went on another run, this time 8-0 highlighted by a three for Trey Allen to go up 19-5. Kollin Allbright had a couple of big blocks for the Bobcats during the stretch. At the end of one quarter it was a 19-7 San Angelo Central lead.

Midland scored the first four points of the second quarter, capped by a fast break layup by Dwayne Bush where he went coast-to-coast coming off a steal to make it 19-11. The Bobcats tacked on a basket, but Satterwhite was able to poke away the ball and take a steal to the basket for a layup making it a 21-13 game in favor of the Bobcats. Mosley quickly followed with a fast break score of his own and it was a 21-15 Bobcat lead. However, San Angelo went on a 9-2 run to put the lead at 30-17. Bush cut it back to 10 points when he hit a three. Midland bounced back in the second quarter with a 13-11 advantage, and at the half the Bobcats led 30-20.

San Angelo Central outscored the Bulldogs 19-10 in the third quarter putting them at a commanding 49-30 lead. Midland put on a great offensive display with 24 points in the fourth, but the deficit was too big for the comeback attempt, and San Angelo held on for a 10 point win.

Satterwhite had 15 points for the Bulldogs in the loss.

San Angelo edged Midland out in the shooting department at 43% to 41%. The Bobcats drained 33% from deep, and Midland shot 25% from beyond the arc. San Angelo Central led 35-25 in rebounds, 9-8 in steals and 11-0 in blocks in what was an impressive display of rim protection. Each team had nine assists.
