The City of Midland is celebrating the donation of $150,000 from Schlumberger Limited (SLB) for the construction and installation of playground equipment, solar lighting, and other amenities at Grasslands Park in west Midland.
The Midland City Council approved the donation at its December meeting. The City of Midland reported that the $150,000 donation from SLB will increase the amount available for projects at Grasslands and Tumbleweed parks to $700,000. The city noted $425,000 will be used for Grasslands.
“Staff was contacted by representatives from SLB in August 2023,” the City of Midland previously reported. “They expressed an interest in making a donation to the City of Midland to improve a neighborhood park. After several meetings, SLB determined they were interested in helping with the proposed improvements at Grasslands Park. They were particularly interested in the possibility of installing solar pedestrian lighting and contributing to the plan to install a playground in the park. Staff plans to work with SLB, the Grasslands HOA, and the Parks and Recreation Commission to bring new amenities to Grasslands Park in the spring and summer of 2024.”
