Midland Health announced its Medical Exploring program for individuals aged 14-18 who are interested in pursuing a career in health care. The program, known as Medical Explorer Post 1950, recognizing the year the hospital was created, was established in 2023 and operates year-round with typically two meetings per month.

Medical Exploring is an educational program that introduces young adults to potential health care careers following high school. The primary objectives include preparing participants for the transition from school to work, aiding in the determination of their educational paths, and offering insights into various health-related professions.

According to Midland Health website, the program’s purpose is “to provide experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.”

Participants in the Medical Exploring program have the opportunity to visit different hospital departments for overviews, demonstrations, and hands-on learning experiences in various healthcare careers. They can explore careers in respiratory therapy, radiology, rehabilitation services, laboratory, pharmacy, physician specialties, and more.

Midland Health sponsors the Medical Explorers program and ensures that students face no out-of-pocket costs to participate. To enroll, interested individuals must have the necessary forms signed by a parent or guardian, including the application, HIPAA/confidentiality agreement, waiver of liability agreement and parent/guardian medical authorization consent form, and consent to photograph/videotape/interview.

Medical Explorer Post meetings are held on Sundays at 2 p.m. in the private dining room at the main campus. Upcoming meeting information can be found at https://www.midlandhealth.org/main/medical-explorers.

The Medical Exploring program is nationally recognized and falls under the Scouts, BSA organization.
