Evan Thomas has been appointed as the new President and CEO of the Midland Chamber of Commerce. The announcement was made through a post on Thomas's LinkedIn account on January 1, where he expressed his excitement about the new role.

As the former Chief Operating Officer of the Midland Chamber of Commerce, Thomas conveyed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to serve the Midland community and its business sector through his announcement post. He acknowledges the significance of the momentous occasion, telling Midland Times, "Big things are happening in Midland, and events taking place around the world are making Midland’s energy production as important as ever."

The change in leadership marks the retirement of Bobby Burns, the former mayor of Midland and outgoing president who served the Midland Chamber of Commerce in the previous term since 2011. Burn’s contributions and legacy within the organization were acknowledged during Midland Chamber of Commerce Centennial Kickoff Soiree that took place December 18, 2023.

The Chamber’s Centennial Kickoff Soiree served as an opportunity to recognize Burns for his dedication to the Chamber, his three mayoral terms, and years of community involvement. “It’s been the privilege of a lifetime to lead this Chamber for the past 12 years and work on behalf of Midland,” said Burns in a press release. “It’s seen much change and growth, and I am proud to leave it in Evan’s capable hands.”

Thomas shared his thoughts regarding the timing of the new leadership role, stating, "I can’t think of a more exciting time to take the helm of the Midland Chamber than at the start of our centennial celebration.”

Reflecting on the Chamber's role in the community, Thomas told Midland Times, "The Midland Chamber is the heart of our business community. We’ve had an extraordinary impact over the last 100 years, and we’ve only just begun. It’s an honor to be a part of that and a responsibility that I take to heart.”

The Midland Chamber of Commerce was established in 1924 and operates as a membership-centric organization with the aim of improving the strong business environment in Midland, Texas and the nearby regions. The Chamber also manages the Barbara and George H.W. Bush Convention Center, VisitMidland, and the VisitMidland Info & Travel Center.
