The Ector County Independent School District (ECISD) has confirmed that Ivan Carreon, a student-athlete from Odessa High School, has committed to the University of Oklahoma (OU). He formalized his commitment by signing a letter of intent with the Sooners. The letter has reportedly reached Norman, Oklahoma, where Carreon is expected to commence his studies in January.
In a social media post, it was revealed that Carreon signed the letter at his home surrounded by family and friends. "December 20 marks Early National Signing Day across the country," the post stated.
Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 196 pounds, Carreon earned his stripes as a wide receiver for the Bronchos, according to sports website 247Sports. The site reported that he selected OU over other notable institutions including Purdue University, Texas Tech University (TTU), Southeast Missouri State University, and Texas State University. Notably, Carreon's first year at OU coincides with the Sooners' inaugural year as a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
Sports Illustrated highlighted that Carreon is listed as a four-star recruit. The publication added that he possesses both speed and strength; he is "fast enough to beat slower defenders downfield" and "big enough to overpower smaller defensive backs." Beyond football, Sports Illustrated also noted that Carreon participated in two other sports during his time at Odessa.
