The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has embarked on a 12-day campaign to share holiday safety tips with Texans via its social media platforms. The state law enforcement agency indicates that these tips are primarily related to driving, with the advice for December 7 being, "Don’t drink and drive."

The DPS post encourages motorists who plan to celebrate the holidays with alcohol to ensure they have a sober ride home, whether it be through a designated driver, taxi, or rideshare service. "Your fellow Texans are depending on you," stated DPS.

Over the past two weeks, DPS has been monitoring Texas roadways for drivers who may have consumed excessive alcohol. According to DPS Trooper Richard Standifer in an interview with Houston National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate KUHF News, those planning road trips during the holidays should remember essential safety measures such as buckling up, adhering to speed limits, avoiding electronic devices while driving, and staying inside their vehicle in case of a breakdown.

Houston CW affiliate KIAH News reported that DPS is also presenting a holiday exhibit aimed at illustrating the dangers of drunk driving at various businesses. The station added that the agency is expected to increase its presence starting from the week before Christmas Day.
