The Little Shops of 349 is a captivating new business nestled in the heart of Midland. It is making waves with its unique charm and carefully curated selections that reflect the essence of the women in Midland. The owner, Carla Strait Quain, has created a space that satisfies fashion cravings, and also fosters a sense of pride in supporting local businesses.

As a newly created small business, The Little Shops of 349 is not just a shopping destination; it's a community hub that invites residents to explore a range of styles and services.

The Little Shops of 349 is located in Mission Square and comprises a total of six vendors, each presenting unique items or specialized services, including affordable boutique clothing, accessories, jewelry, antique goods, and professional photography.

Quain operates her shop within the entire storefront known as Rowdy Ranch Boutique. She sells clothing and accessories that range from casual to business casual.

Turning a lifelong dream into reality, Quain opened the doors of The Little Shops of 349 less than a year ago.

“I created The Little Shops of 349 given that I’ve always had a love for fashion and always longed to be my own boss,” Quain told Midland Times. “My daughter was also an inspiration because she started her own small business, so that made me sit down one day and decide I was going to open this boutique of my dreams.”

Quain said she feared that her age would prevent her dream from coming true.

“I started my business in my mid 50s, and I worried about the stigma that says only younger women can create styles and promote fashion,” Quain said. “But everyday I meet new women who love to shop at my boutique, and I no longer feel that stigma.”

Quain said that, "witnessing customers who truly enjoy shopping at my store ignites the passion that inspired me to establish my own business in the first place."

Quain told Midland Times that community support makes the difference in sustaining a small business. She said her connection with the community has been a source of strength and purpose. It also leads her to keep prices affordable.

“We select high-end clothing and accessories and sell them for an affordable price, and we do this with the motive of being a place for all women of Midland to come and create their own style they can be confident in,” Quain said.

Quain said she aims to keep a year-round sales rack with prices as low as $5 in hopes to keep clothing and accessories accessible to all women.

Shoppers at her store can make purchases in person or through her website. Quain uses social media to showcase available items, and to inform customers about sales and promotions.
