Medical Center Hospital in Odessa is mourning the loss of one of its dedicated nurses. Haylie Hicks, a labor and delivery nurse, passed away at the age of 26, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and care. Hicks had been a part of the hospital since 2019, starting as an intern and later becoming a staff RN in Labor & Delivery.

In a heartfelt Facebook post on Oct. 17, Hicks' employer expressed the impact she had on the hospital and its patients. "Words aren't enough to describe Haylie's impact at MCH," the post read. "Her journey here began in 2019. She was first an intern and later became a staff RN in Labor & Delivery as soon as she graduated."

Parents who had welcomed a child at Medical Center Hospital in recent years may have had the privilege of interacting with Hicks. The hospital remembered her for always having "a big smile on her face," a "loud and infectious" laugh, and a bright personality that patients and fellow nurses came to love. Hicks made everyone around her feel special and her presence will be deeply missed.

Tragically, Hicks fell ill suddenly last week and was placed on life support. Despite the hospital's efforts, she passed away. In honor of her dedication and service, an Honor Walk was held along the halls of the hospital's ICU. It was a poignant tribute to a nurse who had touched the lives of many.

Even in death, Hicks continues to save lives as she was a registered organ donor. The hospital shared this touching detail in their Facebook post. It is a testament to her selflessness and commitment to helping others.

Medical Center Hospital expressed their condolences and asked for prayers for Hicks' family, friends, and co-workers during this difficult time. While her physical presence will be missed, her spirit lives on both inside and outside the hospital's walls. Haylie Hicks will always be remembered for her dedication, kindness, and the lasting impact she made on those she cared for.
