The Texas Size Garage Sale is underway in Midland, providing an opportunity for the community to come together and support a worthy cause. This annual event raises funds for Meals on Wheels, with every $8 spent funding a meal for someone in need.
According to CBS7 News, the 34th annual Texas Size Garage Sale began last weekend and will continue until Oct. 21. The sale originated as a way to raise money for Meals on Wheels and has grown over the years. Peggy Thorson, the founder of the event, witnessed its evolution. Steven Porterfield, a long-time volunteer, reminisced, "The first year we made $800, and we thought we were in the money… she passed away a few years ago, but she got to come the year that we did a quarter of a million."
The community has shown tremendous support for the event. The sale received a donated building, and a generous Midlander funded a new roof and parking lot, as highlighted in the CBS7 News article. This support not only helps fund Meals on Wheels but also fosters a sense of togetherness and support within the community.
The Texas Size Garage Sale Facebook page showcases the wide variety of items available for purchase. Clothing, books, furniture, toys, and more are featured in the posts. The page also advertises specific sales and promotions, such as discounts on certain days or for certain items. One post on the page reads, "Address 407 E Scharbauer in Midland. Cash, checks, or credit/debit cards. The entire building is open! Money raised goes to Meals on Wheels! We have 27,000 square feet of shopping."
The Texas Size Garage Sale not only provides an opportunity for Midlanders to find great deals but also allows them to support their community and contribute to a meaningful cause. By participating in the sale, individuals can make a difference and ensure that those in need receive a nourishing meal.
