H.S. Football: Legacy Rebels win shootout over previously-undefeated Frenship

Senior Brex Stevens caught six passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns and was also named Homecoming King as the Legacy Rebels outlasted the previously-undefeated Frenship Tigers, 63-56.

Marcos Davila (19 of 23 for 258 yards, four touchdowns, one interception) connected with senior tight end Jordan Williams on a ten yard pass that proved the winning score, with less than one minute remaining in the game.

Senior running back Damien Johnson had 21 carries for 259 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Rebels, who improved their record to 5-1.

Johnson started off the scoring with a 70 yard touchdown run in the first quarter, on the Rebels first possession.

The Tigers responded with a 50 yard touchdown strike by senior quarterback Hudson Hutcheson (34 of 48 for 520 yards, five touchdowns, one interception) to junior Leyton Stone.

Stone (11 catches, 182 yards_ had three touchdown receptions for the Tigers. Frenship sophomore Chase Campbell (10 catches, 144 yards) had two scores.

Hutcheson has thrown for 2,148 yards and 21 touchdowns through six games. In 2022, he threw for 3,742 yards and 36 touchdowns.

Frenship had a 42-35 lead with nine minutes remaining in the third quarter when Johnson tied the game with his second rushing score, then, after a Rebels fumble recovery, gave Legacy a 49-42 with his third rushing touchdown.

 Legacy took a 49-42 lead into the fourth quarter and would hold on.

The teams were tied 35-35 at halftime.

For the Rebels, Aiden Serrano had nine catches for 89 yards.

Junior free safety Cole Neatherlin (nine tackles), senior strong safety Max Vera (eight tackles), and senior middle linebacker Esus Robredo (eight tackles) led the Legacy defense.
