H.S. Football: McCoy, Midland pull away from San Angelo Central

Junior running back Elijah McCoy ran 35 times for 246 yards and three touchdowns as the undefeated Midland Bulldogs (6-0) defeated the San Angelo Central Bobcats, 45-27, at San Angelo Stadium.

Sophomore quarterback Tristan Love added seven carries for 64 yards and a score, and junior Anthony Kolb had two rushing touchdowns to pace Midland, which never trailed.

Defensively, senior free safety Athen Dominquez (16 tackles) and senior middle linebacker Turner Squire (ten tackles, four for loss) paced the Bulldogs.

The teams traded touchdowns in the first half and were tied 14-14 at halftime.

Midland scored first, taking a 7-0 lead on a ten yard rushing touchdown by Love with two minutes remaining in the first quarter. But the Bobcats tied the game in the second quarter, with quarterback Christian English scoring from two yards out, to make it 7-7.

A nine yard touchdown rush by the Bulldogs' Kolb gave Midland a 14-7 lead with three minutes remaining in the half. But English answered for the Bobcats, finding Carmelo Amigleo with an eleven yard touchdown pass to tie the game.

A second, six yard touchdown run by Kolb with seven minutes to go in the third quarter gave the Bulldogs another seven point lead, 21-14. Then English led the Bobcats to another score to tie the game, rushing for 20 yards to the end zone to make it 21-21 with six minutes remaining in the third quarter.

A field goal by Midland's Levi Crowder made it 24-21, then Bulldogs' defensive lineman Tahj Harris recovered a San Angelo Central fumble, leading to a touchdown drive that culminated in a one yard McCoy touchdown run to make it 31-21.

McCoy added two more rushing touchdowns, anotehr one yard rush with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, and a 46 yard touchdown run with five minutes remaining that made it 45-27.

The 5'8, 187 pound McCoy has rushed for 947 yards through six games and is averaging 158 yards per game. He has scored 16 touchdowns.

Next week, the Bulldogs play at Wolfforth Frenship (5-1), which lost 63-56 to Legacy on Friday night.
