Country singer and American Idol star Scott McCreery will perform at Momentum Bank Ballpark in Midland on September 16, the Midland RockHounds announced on Sept. 1. The gates will open at 6:15 p.m., and the concert is scheduled to start at 7 p.m., the announcement said.
The event, sponsored by ConocoPhillips, Oxy, and Pioneer Natural Resources, benefits the Permian Basin Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).
McCreery made history in 2011 with his platinum debut album, "Clear as Day," and has had all four of his albums reach No. 1, selling over 3 million copies. He has won various awards, including ACM New Artist of the Year in 2011 and the CMT Music Award for Breakthrough Video of the Year in 2012 for "The Trouble with Girls," with singles "I Love You This Big" and "The Trouble with Girls" achieving platinum status, the concert announcement said.
McCreery will be accompanied by Jake Worthington, a honky-tonk-inspired musician from La Porte, who brings a deep love for traditional country music to his performances, influenced by classic artists like Ray Price, Merle Haggard, and George Jones. Worthington's upbringing on their music fueled his own musical journey, and his self-penned debut album, titled "Jake Worthington," is revitalizing venues across the country, sharing the stage with artists like Cody Johnson, Riley Green, and Hank Williams Jr., the press release said.
Worthington is also gaining recognition in Nashville. He said he is dedicated to preserving the authenticity of country music and believes it deserves a place in the genre. “I believe in country music as much as I believe in my next breath. Blame it on my raising, but I think there ought to be room for country in country music,” the release quotes him as saying.
