On Aug. 24, the Midland County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) expressed gratitude in response to those who contributed to its community fund. The MCSO used some of the donations to purchase emergency medical kits for its officers.

“Sheriff David Criner would like to thank the citizens of Midland County who contributed to the donation fund,” MCSO wrote in an Aug. 24 Facebook post. “The use of the donation fund allowed for the upgrade of trauma kits and breaching tools for all Midland County Sheriff’s Office Deputies.”

KOSA 7 reports that the sheriff’s office spent $7,000 of the donations on 50 kits containing medical supplies and breaching tools for its officers and intends to purchase 50 additional kits so every deputy will have one. According to KOSA 7, each kit contains Narcan, a seat belt cutter, flashlights, a rescue knife, window punch and other emergency equipment and supplies.

“A lot of emergencies at houses call for help and were able to stop the bleeding,” Criner told KOSA. “We have blood suppression in there as well so it’s just an all-round good tool for us to help save lives.” Channel 7 reports MCSO also bought additional breaching tools with $26,000 in forfeited funds.

KOSA 7 reports Criner said he was “overwhelmed” by the community support. “I speak of it all the time that we are blessed out here in West Texas to have the support of law enforcement that we have,” the sheriff told KOSA.

According to an Aug. 25 Facebook post, Sheriff Criner and the MCSO recently participated in the Buffalo Trail Council Boy Scouts of America annual clay shoot.
