Midland residents can expect a higher chance of rain showers this week after bearing yet another hot front this past weekend, a Midland Reporter-Telegram (MRT) news report said.
“It remains to be seen if that will be the last time the 100-degree mark will be threatened in 2023, as the NWS is showing high temperatures falling into the low-to-mid 90s next week,” a recent MRT report said. “Midland is still on pace to set a new record for the warmest month (no matter the month) in the city’s history, according to the National Weather Service.”
“The chance for precipitation increases Monday with a 70% chance during the day,” an MRT report says. “The chance drops to 40% on Monday night and 20% before 1 p.m. Tuesday.”
The National Weather Service (NWS) initially predicted high temperatures around 99 and 98 degrees this weekend, MRT reported. The network also predicted a 20% chance of showers on Saturday and a 30% chance on Saturday night. This week, showers are expected to begin tonight. The report says there is a 50% chance of rain after 5 p.m. and then a 50% chance tonight.
“New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch are possible,” according to the NWS.
The probabilities serve as good news for the city, which has accumulated only 0.39 of an inch since June 1 and 1.79 inches in total this year. The normal rainfall through Aug. 26 is 9.06 inches.
The Keetch-Byram Drought Index indicated that Midland County scored 692, the highest of the summer, reflecting drought conditions, MRT reported.
