Midland County Commissioner Luis Sanchez announced his plans to run for re-election earlier this month at Martinez Bakery, NewsWest9 reports.
"We've been awarded a federal grant. One of them being the USDA Grant. This grant is going to help with flooding south of town. We are going into [the] planning process of that," Sanchez said. "The other one is safe streets for all grants. This is going to help with crashes [and] dangerous roads located south of Interstate 20 so we've received that planning grant now."
If elected, this would be the Democrat’s fifth term as the precinct’s representative. Some of his future plans include the Hike and Bike Trail next to Midland County Horseshoe.
“Our work remains unfinished,” Sanchez said. “I bring to the table the essential attributes of experience, diligence, accessibility to constituents and dedication to this county.”
During the meeting, Sanchez highlighted some of his career’s accomplishments, which include his oversight of the county's $30 million road improvement funds, a 15% increase to law enforcement and keeping taxes at a low pace.
He is also credited with helping a $100,000 property tax exemption for veterans and Midlanders over 65 pass, as well as the Colonia Grant to build septic tanks for low-to-moderate income families.
The Martinez Bakery was selected by Sanchez for the announcement because of its location at the center of Precinct 3.
