A GoFundMe page has been set up for 34-year-old Christine “Baby” Galvan, who the Odessa Police Department (OPD) said lost her life in a single-vehicle crash on Tuesday. The page will help Galvan’s surviving family pay for funeral costs for the mother of four.

“I know the news came as a horrible shock to everyone who knew her,” Jorge “George” Cadena, Galvan’s brother, wrote. “She always smiled and prayed to God for you or with you."

“[She] could easily become your friend. Honestly, the world lost a shining light that was trying to do better for herself and her kids … I'll be doing my best to take care of her with the help of our mother and her father,” Cadena said.

The family hopes the GoFundMe could raise $4,000, and as of Aug. 3, 16 donations totaling $638 have been made, according to the page.

“Any donation you can give would be of the greatest help or help spread the word with the helping of donations,” Cadena said. “I appreciate anyone for coming here and either giving a donation or sharing.”

According to an Aug. 1 Facebook post from the city, police and Odessa Fire Rescue (OFR) responded to the incident in the 900 block of South County Road West at around 1 a.m. The city said upon arrival, officers discovered a white 2005 Pontiac G6 driven by Galvan on West County Road.

“Galvan left the roadway and struck a light pole,” the city said in the Facebook post. “She was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Authorities subsequently notified her next of kin, and the accident is currently under investigation, the city reports.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” the city said in the post.

Funeral arrangements are reportedly pending. OPD said on Facebook that the accident was the first of two fatal crashes officers responded to on Tuesday morning.
