A Midland ISD transportation coordinator has been honored for work throughout the years. The announcement in a recent news release commends her for her hard work and congratulates her on this achievement.

"Ms. (Elisa) Felix's contributions have been invaluable to our transportation department and the students who we serve," Cortney Smith, chief operations officer for the district, said in the release. "The honor of being named Operations Specialist of the Year is a testament to her exceptional skills and relentless dedication to ensuring the safety and efficiency of our bus routes."

MISD's release noted Felix served the district by ensuring students were safe during bus ride routes.

A recent news release from the MISD reported that Felix, “Transportation Routing Coordinator” has received the title of “Operations Specialist of the Year”, recognizing her dedication and work in school transportation for over 30 years. The award, the release said, was given to her by the “Texas Association for Pupil Transportation” (TAPT). Felix received the award at a TAPT banquet in June.

MISD's release explained Felix moved through various positions within the district.

According to the news release, Felix worked as a bus monitor and driver, showing “exceptional care” towards students and making sure the bus was a safe and healthy place. Additionally, the release reports that Felix has worked in other transportation positions, including bookkeeper and trip coordinator, where she adjusted travel routes and various details in order to save time and make operations more efficient.

During MISD School Board's July 25 meeting, the board discussed a memorandum that'll help students at risk of not obtaining a high school diploma and meet the Texas Education Agency "At-Risk" criteria.

The release additionally states that the work of Felix has impacted the lives of other staff members and parents alike by upholding safety to the “highest standards”, and ensuring that buses depart and arrive on schedule.

The MISD board will meet again at 5 p.m. on Aug. 15 at Bowie Fine Arts Academy at 805 Elk Ave.
