Midland County suffers 147 new COVID-19 cases in week ending Oct. 30

Midland County recorded 147 new COVID-19 cases in the week ending Oct. 30, according to the County of Midland Health Department.

This is 35 percent fewer COVID-19 cases than the week before.

So far in 2021, the most severe week in Midland for new COVID-19 cases was the week ending Aug. 28, when 1,328 new cases were found.

The lowest number found in one week was 14 in the week ending June 26.

The average number of new COVID-19 cases found in a week in 2021 throughout Midland County is 307.

Midland County has fared much better in the fight against COVID-19 than other Texas counties and the state as a whole. As of Oct. 2, the Mayo Clinic found Midland suffered 22 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people, compared to 34 per 100,000 across Texas.

There are occasional discrepancies in COVID-19 reporting by the City of Midland Health Department, such as days with one percent of average new case numbers.

More than 300 Midland County residents have died of COVID-19 or the impact of the virus on existing health issues.
