Midland Classical Academy senior baseball player Cort Miller is headed to Midland College after signing a letter of intent.

Miller, who also played basketball for the Knights, told the Midland Reporter-Telegram he is grateful for the opportunity to continue playing the sport he loves.

“It’s been a dream of mine to play college sports, whether it be basketball or baseball. To be able to continue my career in baseball means a lot. I’m really looking forward to the future and what it has to hold,” Miller said.

After meeting with the Midland College coach, Miller said he made the decision to play for the team.

“What sets Cort above all others is his natural baseball instinct, his natural, God-given ability that cannot be taught and his unconditional love of the game,” MCA baseball coach Charlie McMillian told the MRT.

As he looks to the Midland College team, head coach Hector Rodriguez told reporters he is excited to watch Miller develop on the team.

“I’ve known him for a long time and everybody speaks highly of him. He’s a phenomenal kid. Those are the kids we want to get into our locker room,” Rodriguez told the MRT.

Miller proved himself at the plate for MCA, batting .672 with three home runs as a junior. That same year, he helped guide the team to their first state title and in turn, earned state championship MVP and TAPPS first-team all-state honors.

A scouting report describes the 6-foot-2, 185-pound Miller as "a solidly built athlete" who "brings a high energy approach to defense."

Though he had also held success on the MCA basketball team, Miller decided baseball gave him a better shot to play at the collegiate level, choosing to move forward on that path.
