Midland Independent School District inducted five athletes into the Hall of Legends.

According to CBS7, Tevis Herd, a track star; Olympians Bryce Hoppel and Natalie Hinds; and NFL standouts Eric Winston and Cedric Benson were enshrined before kickoff of the rivalry game between Midland and Midland Legacy High School at Grande Communications Stadium on Oct. 22. Benson, who died in 2019, was represented by his mother Jackie.

"This is an outstanding class," Blake Feldt, Executive Director of Athletics Blake Feldt said, according to News West 9. "These athletes' accomplishments are something to be proud of, not only for the school district but for the entire city of Midland."

Benson was a star running back at Midland Legacy (then named Robert E. Lee High School) who helped build a dynasty at LHS, as well as a successful collegiate and NFL career; Herd won a state title for Midland in 1960; MHS graduates Hinds and Hoppel are fresh from their appearances in the Tokyo Olympics; and Winston, a 12-year NFL veteran, protected Benson as a member of two LHS title teams, News West 9 reported.

"It's really gratifying to know that people [are] interested in coming out and supporting [you]," Herd said.

On the gridiron, undefeated Legacy rode its high-octane offense to defeat Tall City rival Midland, 57-27, according to News West 9.
