Odessa police and fire rescue's "Trunk or Treat" at Odessa City Hall last weekend is followed by a "BOO-tacular Adoption Event" at Odessa Animal Shelter in the lead up to Halloween.
Information about the annual shelter's "no tricks, just treats free adoption event" scheduled through Saturday, Oct. 30, was posted to Odessa Police Department's Facebook page.

"If you're looking to add a new furry friend this will be a great opportunity," the police department said in the Facebook post. "Some of the dogs will be wearing a costume, bring the kiddos for pictures and candies."
Anyone who would like more information may call the shelter at (432) 368-3527.
The Midland Co. Sheriff's Office also is expected to mark the holiday this year in its second annual free "Halloween Drive-In Movie Bash" at Big Sky Drive-In Movie Theater at 6200 W. Highway 80 in Midland on Saturday, Oct. 30, according to a video announcement on the department's Facebook page. Gates are expected to open at 5 p.m., and the movies start at 7:25 p.m. "Despicable Me" and "Scoob!" is scheduled to play on screen 1, "Lego Movie" and "Space Jam" is expected to be featured on screen 2, and "Casper" and "Goosebumps" on screen 3.
Vitalant also will be accepting blood donations, and the Midland County Sheriff's Department's Lenco BearCat will be on display during the drive-in event.
The Odessa police Facebook post came days after Odessa police and firefighters on Saturday, Oct. 23, handed out candy to area children and offered safety tips for the holiday during the Trunk or Treat event at City Hall. The departments also took the opportunity to show off their equipment to the public.
First responders at the event encouraged would-be Halloween revelers to examine candy before consuming it and to visit only houses that have their porchlights on, according to Your Basin's coverage of the event.
"Just the look in these kids' faces when they're getting candy or when they're walking up to you, their eyes are lit up," Odessa S.W.A.T. Team officer Donaciano Rocha told Your Basin. "That's what means a lot. That's what I like."
