Scharbauer Foundation continues long-standing family tradition of improving life in Midland

The Scharbauer Foundation is continuing its legacy of helping make Midland a better place, and nonprofits continue to benefit.

Scharbauer provides grants to enhance the livability and business environment of Midland. The Foundation evaluates grant requests based on five focus areas: education, health, public/civic benefit and human/social services.

Since its inception, the foundation has helped fund several projects such as starting the original First National Bank of Midland, donated land for the Midland International Airport, assisted in establishing Midland Memorial Hospital and many other projects as well.

The Foundation opens the application process twice a year to consider requests and awards grants in a spring and a fall cycle. Pre-applications for the 2022 Spring Grant Cycle will be accepted from Jan. 11, 2022 through Feb. 3, 2022.

Only qualified nonprofit organizations will be considered for a grant. To qualify, a nonprofit must: Be tax-exempt under the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3), classified as a public charity under Internal Revenue Code Section 509(a), provide a copy of the IRS Letter of Determination Ruling, and applicants claiming exemption as a Government Entity must also provide evidence of their tax-exempt status.

The following are not eligible for grants: individuals, churches, lobbying organizations, individual public or private schools that provide primary and/or secondary education (PK-12) to the general population.

Since the 1880s, the Scharbauer family has committed resources to improving their community in Midland, Texas. Their tradition of civic engagement and helping their neighbors continues to this day with Clarence Scharbauer Jr. establishing the Scharbauer Foundation in 2010.
