The Texas Department of Transportation-sponsored child car safety events that have been scheduled in Odessa and Midland will help people ensure their car seats have been installed correctly.

The Midland event, on Sept. 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Midland Discovery School, and the Odessa event, on Sept. 21 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Music City Mall, coincide with National Child Passenger Safety Week. According to the DOT's site, two out of three child car seats are installed incorrectly.

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and the Texas DOT have joined hands to conduct these events, according to News West 9. If you attend, it's recommended you verify ahead of time the age, height, and weight of the child who will be using the car seat.

In the event a seat fails inspections, a limited number of seats will be on hand at the events for exchange.
