Football players representing Midland and Midland Freshman high schools got their hands dirty taking part in a recent Keep Midland Beautiful cleanup event.

"Big thanks to Coach Fortune and the MHS and MFHS football teams!! These young men got out in the heat to pick up trash and help," said Midland Mayor Patrick Payton in a Facebook post

The effort is part of the "Sun's Up, Get Up, Clean Up" program launched in early June by Payton and Keep Midland Beautiful, says a post about the program by Keep Midland Beautiful on Facebook

The program encourages Midlanders to join the summer litter cleanup campaign for the next 3 months.

The nonprofit Keep Midland Beautiful was founded in 1983 with a mission to "create a clean, beautiful, and waste-free Midland," its website describes

Everyone is invited and encouraged to take part in the campaign — and get a free Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit from Whataburger, according to News West 9
