Republican Texas Sen. Kel Seliger has requested that state Attorney General Ken Paxton file an injunction to stop the arrival of unaccompanied juveniles at the migrant facility in Midland.

Seliger stated that strict standards recommended by the Office of Refugee Resettlement should be in place, which were not being upheld at the facility at the time of his the letter to Paxton.

"Tragically, the plans for relocation seem to pose as many opportunities for human traffickers as they do for family reunification," Seliger posted on Twitter.

“These are children,” Seliger continued in his series of tweets on the matter. “That means that on top of our concern for them, the federal government requires juvenile housing facilities to be state-licensed and the facility in Midland is not.”

The first buses of juveniles started to arrive on Sunday, March 14.

“We have been told that turnaround for these minors will be about 72 hours, Seliger said in a statement. “This seems highly unlikely, if not impossible, since the explanation on the relocation of these individuals has not been systematically prearranged, not to mention the positive number of COVID-19 cases, which will require quarantine.”
