Community organizations in Midland and other areas have received $25,000 in donations, earmarked to assist communities with the COVID-19 recovery, according to a Midland Chamber of Commerce press release.

“We asked some of our people to consider how we might make an immediate and positive impact in our communities to help those who may otherwise be struggling either with food, mental health and/or housing issues,” Chris Whigham, president of West Texas National Bank, said. “Our employees suggested we provide donations to the following non-profits which have touched many of their hearts and lives. We hope these donations will inspire others to give to our communities and our non-profits to help them continue doing their great work during this difficult time.”

The donations were non-restricted, and distributed among these nonprofits in Midland and Odessa: Breaking Bread, Midland; Centers for Children & Families in Midland and Odessa; the Salvation Army, in Midland and Odessa; and Ward County Greater Works, in Ward, Ector and Midland Counties.

Breaking Bread Ministries provides more than 175 meals per day and offers bible study and street ministry as well. Ward County Greater Works also serves low-income elderly and disabled residents and children, by offering food, a safe place after school, fellowship, home-use medical equipment and gently used clothing to those in need.

Centers for Children and Families provides counseling services, support for adoptive families, teens and parents, anger management and the Kids First program.

“WTNB Board Members and Senior Management wanted to see something good come out of having to cancel some of our celebrations during the holidays,” Jonna Smoot, vice president of Marketing at West Texas National Bank, said.

West Texas National Bank has served communities in the state for more than 117 years, and currently has a dedicated staff of 175 employees.
