Foster care organizations like One Accord For Kids are pleased with President Donald Trump’s new executive order to improve the child welfare system, according to the group's  website

Transparency and oversight  just a couple of factors that will be evaluated and improved under Trump’s order.

While One Accord for Kids commended the policy, it also pointed out the limits of how much the federal government can truly do when it comes to foster care.  “We agree with President Trump that: ‘All children deserve a stable, supportive, and loving home in which to grow, thrive, and realize their full potential," the group said. "However, the federal government’s role in foster care is limited. Ultimately, it is up to states and communities to recognize the opportunities to reform the foster care system and form effective partnerships to do just that.”

There are currently 430,000 children in foster care in U.S., One Accord said. Roughly 124,000 of them are under consideration for adoption, according to the group. As for the Lone Star state, it had 29,242 in foster care at the close of the most recent fiscal year. About 20,000 foster care kids aged out of the foster care system nationwide. Unfortunately, they are at high risk of being homeless, going to jail, and having issues finding a steady job.

One Accord for Kids also took to its official Facebook page to share its thoughts on Trump’s written order, which also provides resources throughout the foster care system.

That statement reads, "President Trump’s Executive Order recognizes that a community vital to the well-being of children in the foster system. We are glad that Texas DFPS has already made a number of these reforms. Great progress but still a long ways to go."
