An employee of the Midland Sam’s Club went above and beyond the call of duty when he wrestled a knife from a 19-year-old man, saving lives in the process on March 14.
NewsWest9 reported Zach Owen was hospitalized with 30 stitches to his hand and 12 to his leg after taking down and disarming the suspect. Three people, including two children, were injured before Owen could subdue the attacker.
Representatives from Sam’s Club have visited Owen’s home and provided food and drinks as a gesture of their appreciation for his actions.
NewsWest9 reported the victims had been released to recover at home. Owen has been released as well.
Owen was described as a humble person who tries to avoid the limelight by his family.
“You know an older brother is someone you always look up to no matter what,” Payton Owen, Zach’s little brother told NewsWest9. “You expect good things from them, but when it’s something like this, your hero becomes the community’s hero.”
