The Texas Homeless Network (THN) has published the findings from the 2025 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, revealing that 300 individuals are experiencing homelessness in Midland. This group consists of 89 children, 157 adults, and 54 seniors. Within these numbers, 14 are identified as veterans, 42 are chronically homeless, 239 are in shelters, and 61 remain unsheltered.

The 2025 count reflects key changes from the previous year, as there are now 41 fewer individuals experiencing homelessness compared to 2024, including an increase of 36 more people in shelters as well as a reduction of 77 unsheltered individuals. These statistics suggest a movement within the homeless population, possibly due to increased shelter access or more stable housing solutions. Alternatively, factors like relocation or other personal circumstances might also influence these shifts.

The PIT Count is a national project mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), with coordination in Texas by THN. The Midland Homeless Coalition, along with committed volunteers and service providers, conducted this year's count following THN’s request for involvement. The teams surveyed individuals both in shelters and living on the streets to achieve a precise and thorough evaluation.

"The Midland Homeless Coalition remains committed to serving our community with transparency, integrity, and compassion," the Coalition declared. "By participating in the PIT Count, we ensure that real data informs local efforts to support those experiencing homelessness."

Addressing homelessness requires constant community cooperation and collaboration. The Midland Homeless Coalition extends its gratitude to all volunteers who assisted with the count and remains focused on developing lasting solutions for individuals in need.
