What began as a small jewelry show hosted in a living room has grown into one of Odessa's popular boutiques. Located at 2310 E. 8th St., Kirby’s Kloset offers a variety of clothing, gifts, shoes, and accessories for women and children.
Twelve years ago, Kirby Wood and her mother, Janet Lawrence, decided to turn their side hustle into a storefront after years of hosting shopping events in their home.
“We started having jewelry shows out of her house where we would invite our friends over to come shop,” Wood said. “After doing that periodically over four years, we decided we wanted to open a store and expand into clothing and gift items.”
The boutique’s unique charm starts with its location.
“As soon as we walked into our current building, we saw that it had a fireplace and knew it would be perfect,” Wood said. “We did a lot of remodeling to further complete the home-like feel of it.”
Kirby’s Kloset stands out by offering something for everyone—from trendy teen looks to baby shower gifts to classic accessories.
“We consciously buy a wide variety of clothing styles and make sure we have unique accessories and gift items that everyone can love,” Wood said. “Every age, every size, and every style.”
Wood, a mother herself, said adding children’s items came naturally after the birth of her first daughter.
“I loved the idea of having a one-stop store for ladies to come shop for themselves and their littles,” she said.
The store also makes shopping easy through social media. “Selling items through DM on Facebook and Instagram allows customers to reach out directly to us,” she said. “We can give them a more personalized shopping experience.”
As warmer weather rolls in, Wood said customers can expect bold new arrivals. “This year, bold, graphic prints featuring palm trees, sea shells, and fruit are popular, and we are loving the unique looks,” she said.
