The Young Women's Leadership Academy (YWLA) will host its annual Spring Charity Carnival on March 29, combining fun and philanthropy. The event, running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature games, food, animal adoptions, and a newly expanded silent auction—all benefiting Save the Children.
"Save the Children is a massive organization, but we believe our consistent contributions help contribute to their mission," said YWLA teacher Amanda Byars. "We want to help create a better world for all children."
Carnival-goers can enjoy classic favorites like the cake walk, ring toss, face painting, and concessions. New attractions this year include a henna booth, a watermelon crush booth, and World Map Trivia. Attendees can also explore a resource fair and presentations hosted by the AP Language WE Service project in the cafeteria.
"Our carnival is one of the highlights of the year. Families seem to really enjoy the games!" Byars said. "The more people we can get to come, the more impact we can have. We hope to have a record number of attendees this year!"
Animal lovers will have a chance to meet cats from Cat Wranglers available for adoption. Organizers are also working to confirm the return of Grand Companions, which provided adoptable dogs at last year’s event.
Tickets cost $1, with each booth requiring a varying number of tickets. Cash or check are the preferred payment methods.
YWLA’s carnival is primarily student-led, but the community can support the event by donating snacks, game prizes, or raffle items. Donations can be dropped off at the school’s front office at 1800 E. Wall St. or coordinated with Byars at Amanda.Byars@midlandisd.net.
"We believe in making a difference, and this event allows our students and the community to come together for a great cause," Byars said.
