The City Council convened in Special Session at Beal Park, Midland, Texas, at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
Council Members present: John Burkholder, Amy Stretcher Burkes, Robin Poole, Lori Blong, Brian Stubbs, Jack Ladd, John Norman
Council Members absent: None
Staff members present: City Manager Tommy Gonzalez, City Attorney John Ohnemiller, City Governance Officer/City Secretary Marcia Bentley-German, Managing Director of Public Safety Charles Blumenauer, General Services Director Regina Stephenson, Director of Parks & Recreation Director Laurie Williams, Planning & Development Officer Elizabeth Triggs, Interim Fire Chief Michael Tully, Chief of Staff Taylor Novak, Intergovernmental Relations Officer Lindsey Adams, Strategic Communications Officer Stewart Doreen, Purchasing Manager Erika Munoz, Grant Writer Michele Hagemann, Parks and Recreation Manager Joey Jolly
The meeting was called to order at 2:04 p.m.
SPECIAL SESSION
1. Hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Beal Park improvements project.
Members of the Midland City Council, Midland Development Corporation (MDC), MDC Board, Parks Conservancy, City of Midland staff and the Media attended the Beal Park Master Plan Groundbreaking Ceremony.
Tatum Hubbard, Chief of Staff and Executive Director of Communications & Marketing at The University of Texas Permian Basin welcomed guest.
Mayor Blong made remarks and recognized the generosity of the Beal Foundation, Scharbauer Foundation and ExxonMobil.
Council Member Amy Stretcher Burkes spoke on the importance of this project for the Citizens of Midland and District 4. Council Member Amy Stretcher Burkes also thanked donors and partners for their commitment to this project.
Former Council Member Scott Dufford provided remarks on the transformation of this project over the years.
The following provided remarks for the event: Matthew Voss, President, Midland Soccer Association, Matt Mathis, ExxonMobil and Barry (BJ) Beal Jr., Beal Foundation.
All the business at hand having been completed, the meeting adjourned at 2:27 p.m.
