The Arts Council of Midland (ACM) will host its next installment of Conversations in Fine Art on March 19 from noon to 1 p.m., featuring floral designer and event planner Elizabeth Resch, owner of Velvet Mesquite Designs. The free, public event invites attendees to bring their lunch and join a discussion on creativity, design, and Resch’s journey in the floral industry.
ACM Executive Director Daniel Holeva said Resch was a natural choice for the event.
“We have worked with Elizabeth and Velvet Mesquite Designs for several events over the past few years. We know her attention to detail and creative perspective is strong,” Holeva said. “Her creativity made her a perfect choice for this Conversation.”
The Conversations in Fine Art series aligns with ACM’s mission of fostering creativity across various disciplines.
“ACM believes in the power of the creative spirit,” Holeva said. “Understanding general design principles benefits anyone working in a creative field—whether it’s floral design, painting, or architecture. Different art forms influence one another, and design principles connect them all.”
During the event, Holeva will moderate a discussion with Resch, covering topics such as her background, education, and what led her to become a floral designer. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions and interact with Resch as she demonstrates a live floral arrangement using flowers, greenery, and a container.
ACM’s next Conversations in Fine Art session in June will feature arborist James Tuttle, owner of Tree Loving Care.
“Mr. Tuttle has a true design sense when it comes to growing, shaping and rescuing trees—some of the largest specimens in nature,” Holeva said.
In addition to the Conversations series, ACM offers multiple ways for local artists and designers to participate in its programs. The Celebration of the Arts festival, scheduled for May 16-18, will feature more than 70 visual artists, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities. ACM will also host The Open Show reception on March 20, showcasing 110 works by 50 visual artists.
