The City of Midland has announced the commencement of construction at the ExxonMobil Soccer Complex located in Beal Park. This information was shared through a Facebook post.
According to the city, the February 26 post indicated that the ongoing work will result in the closure of the park's soccer and cricket fields until further notice. "We appreciate your patience and will be sharing updates as construction progresses," said the city in its announcement.
Mayor Lori Blong, along with other city officials, officially initiated the groundbreaking for the soccer complex on February 12, as reported by Midland Times. In her own Facebook post, Blong expressed that the project, which includes 62 fields, a splash park, and additional amenities, "is a big win for our community, expanding recreational opportunities and boosting local sports tourism." She added that this facility will contribute to making Midland "a great place to live, work, and play."
The transformation of Beal Park is estimated to cost $44.5 million. The financial contributions include $28 million from the city itself, $10 million from the Beal Foundation, $5 million from the Scharbauer Foundation specifically for developing the splash park, and an additional $1.5 million from ExxonMobil.
